Dare to Dress in Monochrome!

It’s time to dress boldly, ladies! We’ve got to be fashionable. Men can’t play around with colours in their clothing the way women can. In fashion, monochromatic dressing means wearing separates and/or similar shades of one colour for an overall tonal look. It is also dressing in a colour hue all the same or various hues within the same colour range.

You’ve gotta be careful here because one strike and you are out! That aside, the monochromatic movement is still going strong. This is because it is the commonest method used by designer clothing.

Wanna know how to dress in one colour from head to toe? Kindly read on!

  • If you wish to add depth, highlight and/ or downplay a part of your body, wear several layers of varied textures of one colour. For example, if you want to emphasize your face, wear a skirt or trousers of a slightly darker shade and try working your way upwards with lighter shades of that same colour. If the colour you wish to use is purple, you try using a royal purple skirt and a lilac top.

  • If you have long legs and are apple-shaped (you carry your weight above your waist), you can try wearing a cream blouse and a white pair of jeans.

  • If you wish to play around with blue, the secret is to tinker with varying textures. Who says you can’t wear your blue jeans with another shade of blue top? Or even denim on denim?

  • As for dressing from head to toe in white, the secret is to layer different fabrics to make it look interesting. This colour combination is not for those who might spill their drinks oh!

  • A monochromatic dress, with vertical stripes, has a slimming effect on the figure.

Monochromatic dressing is a colour technique that is here to stay. It adds shape in a more subtle way than colour blocking would. Layering has become every trendsetter’s go-to and playing with monochromatic colours can be a fun way to mix separates without looking like something out of a child’s drawing book!
