It is the dream of everyone who desires a committed relationship to have a partner who will be faithful to them and not cheat on them. This is because we invest a lot of emotions into our relationships with our romantic partners and because no-one wants to contract an STI.

Unfortunately, as many people find out, relationships are often torn apart due to sexual infidelity on the part of one or both of the partners. This causes a lot of pain for the faithful person who then finds it difficult to ever trust again. Infidelity can make one become cynical and cynicism has been shown to reduce the quality of life and one’s longevity. How do we then have an idea of a person who is likely to be faithful to you? Your partner has moved on romantically.
When a partner has extinguished old flames and avoids too much interaction with their exes, it is a sign that s/he is likely to be faithful to you. This is because many people cheat on their lovers with an old flame, because most people tend to idealize their past loves, especially men. If a guy you are considering dating is still chummy chummy with his ex-girlfriend(s), please leave him alone! Such a guy cannot be faithful to you.

The person is not a narcissist.
If the person you are with has narcissistic tendencies-selfish, talks mostly about him/herself, lacks compassion and empathy, this is a sign that such an individual cannot be faithful to you. Read about how to spot a narcissist here

S/he knows no one is immune to cheating.
Most people who cheat have had the thought that they could never have done such a thing. But when your potential lover knows no one is immune to cheating, given a motive and an opportunity, s/he will take the necessary steps to avoid emotional affairs, flirting with coworkers, and will keep a respectful distance from the opposite sex. When a person is too friendly with members of the opposite sex, watch out!

Your partner is not an attention seeker.
A person likely to be faithful to you has a healthy need to be liked and admired, but this is not excessive. If a person is a fan of praise and adulation and has a big ego, such a human being is going to cheat with a person who is willing to shower him/her with flattery.

These pointers are not a sure banker that a person will not cheat on you. However, they do give you an idea of what to look out for in a faithful person.
