Every Woman - Episode Three

EPISODE THREE

When she got to her apartment, Oge quickly undressed and got into the shower. After the hot water had pummeled the stress from her body, she toweled off and put on her Jalabiya, a cute red number her ex-boyfriend, Henry gave her for her birthday two years ago. She went into the kitchen to make some chamomile tea. If only I had a man to cook for, she thought to herself. Just look at me. I’m 30 years old and my eggs are aging fast. I hope I don’t reach the end of my fertility period before I get married and have children. Her phone rang. It was Ira.

“Baby Oge, How’s you?”

“I’m good. What’s popping Ira?”

“The club is off the chain, gal! You ought to be here. What on earth are you doing all by your lonely self in that apartment of yours?”

“I’m sipping tea, chamomile tea.”

“Eew! Of all the strange things to drink on a night like this, chamomile tea!” Ira said. “It’s not too late for me to send a cab out to pick you up. Wanna come?”

“No.” Oge replied quietly.

“At least I tried! Have a good night’s rest.”

Jadesola was deep in thought when Uzo Akah, the actor playing Akin came over to her. He was tall, dark and handsome, just like her ex-fiancee, Niyi. She knew that Uzo liked her and would have wanted to date her if she gave him an opportunity. Unfortunately, whenever she saw him, he reminded her painfully of her ex, whom she really loved. It was practically like playing Usher’s You remind me. Uzo pulled out a chair and sat beside her.

“Jade, how are you?” he asked shyly.

“I’m doing great. How are you doing?” she asked with a smile on her face.

“I’m fine. Can you drive into town with me to buy a few clothes?” Jade looked at him from under her thick eyelashes. She was silent for a moment. Then she looked up.

“Sure! What kind of clothes would you like to buy?”

“Just some jeans and shirts for lounging around the set.”

“I really enjoyed playing Joanna with my knight. Will you give me a massage today?” she teased him. Uzo was surprised.

“I…”

“Forgerrit! I was just pulling your leg.” Jade remarked with a cheerful laugh.

Jennifer left the NGO for her two bedroom flat on Isaac John street in Ikeja GRA. Once there, she pulled her car into the drive and got out. In her bedroom, she turned on the TV and listened to Christiane Amanpour talk about the San Bernadino shooting on CNN. So engrossed was she in the program that she didn’t hear her phone ring. The light on the phone made her realize that she had a missed call. It was Mrs. Bewaji. Annoyance surged within her. What did that woman want this time around? She dialed her number.

“Hello, Mrs. Bewaji. I just saw your missed call. What’s up?”

“Ms. Ninalowo, have you spoken to the prison authorities and the judge?” she asked with urgency in her voice.

“No.”

“My in-laws called a family meeting and demanded that I do my utmost to release my husband and go back to him.” Mrs. Bewaji replied. “Please help me.”

“I’m working on it, ok?”

“Thank you, Ms. Ninalowo.”

Eseosa had a date this Saturday. She was excited and nervous. Her date’s name was Somade, a chartered accountant with the Lekki branch of her bank. She was to meet him at Omigosh bowling alley on the Island.

“Wow, Eseosa, you sure look dapper!” Somade complimented her when she arrived in a hot pink minidress.

“Thank you!” Eseosa smiled broadly.

“Come, let’s have some drinks.” Her date said as he led her to some empty chairs. She walked at his side, tossing her Brazilian hair. Once seated, Somade began, “Tell me about yourself, Eseosa.”

“What do you want to know?” she asked as she fluttered her eyelashes at him.

“Everything!” Somade said. “I want to know all about you.”

“Well, I am a 32-year-old single Black female, a banker by profession and a Taurean.”

“You believe in horoscopes?” Somade was amused.

“I believe in anything that tells me more about myself and how best to adjust myself to the man I want to marry.” She replied. “What is your date of birth?” She asked suddenly.

“September 8.”

“Oh, so you are a Virgoan. Virgo men and Taurus women make a wonderful pair!” She said.

“Oh, really?”

“Yes! In fact…” Somade did not let her finish. “Oh my goodness! Excuse me, my phone’s vibrating!” He brought out his phone and moved away to take a call. When he came back, he told her apologetically that they would have to reschedule their date as something important came up. Eseosa went home in tears.

Till Next Week.
